Mayor distributes prizes to winners of Chrysanthemum show

Chandigarh, December 10:-* The beautiful 36th annual Chrysanthemum Show ended with prize distribution function and cultural shows at Terraced Garden, Sector 33, here today. Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest today and  gave away prizes to the winners of various events organized during chrysanthemum show in the presence of Mrs. Anju Katyal, area councillor and other senior officers of MCC.
The Chief Guest went around the garden to see the various flowers exhibited there with different permutations and combinations. He also visited the display stalls including the Swachh Bharat Mission stall, which raises awareness about waste segregation at the source. Other stalls showcased horticulture waste composting, home composting, safai mitra, construction and demolition waste management, and a unique and eco-friendly initiative called PRARAMBH, a one-stop store for sustainable products run by a self-help group supported by the civic body.
The special attraction of the “Zero Waste” 36th Chrysanthemum Show, featuring the Waste-to-Wonder park at the Terraced Garden. Waste materials like tires, chains, iron sheets, and plastic have been ingeniously transformed into remarkable structures. From tunnels to see-saws, spring riders to crawling obstacles, and benches made of construction and demolition waste, this park is a true wonderland. Children also enjoyed a game of snakes and ladders “ Swachhata Ki Saanp Sidhi” made from recycled materials.
          The Chief Guest applauded the efforts of the officials of Municipal Corporation for organizing such a beautiful show. He said that it was a great show, keep it up and make Chandigarh No.1 in India in the every field.
Gardeners of Horticulture Department, MC in the show have made boat, camel, peacock, cow, giraffe, lion and many other animals and birds using flowers. The beautiful displays of the Chrysanthemum in the Show have helped Chandigarh in acquiring international fame.
The show was a zero waste event during which all the guidelines to keep cleanliness were followed including providing onsite composting facilities through pit, where all the food waste and peels of vegetables etc. were collected from the food stalls for its scientific disposal. Washing area alongside the food stalls was also provided separately, where all the norms were followed in the compliance of zero waste events.
Cultural programmes were also organized by on the stage during throughout the day besides organizing floral quiz. Later, the Mayor and other guests distributed prizes to the winners in various classes and categories. Gardeners of Municipal Corporation were also facilitated during the function.
