Satya Pal Jain re-appointed as Additional Solicitor General of India

Chandigarh 30 June, 2020. Sh. Satya Pal Jain, Ex-City MP & Senior Advocate has been re-appointed as the Additional Solicitor General of India in Punjab & Haryana High Court Chandigarh by the President of India for another term upto 30-6-2023. His extension has been notified in the Raj Patra of Bharat Sarkar (Official Gazette of the Government of India).

The post of Additional Solicitor General of India in Chandigarh was created for the first time by the Union Cabinet in December 2014 and Mr. Jain was appointed as the First Additional Solicitor General of India at Chandigarh by the President of India on 9th April 2015. This post is governed by the Government of India Law Officers (Condition of Service) Rules, 1987, which include the service conditions of Attorney General, Solicitor General and the Additional Solicitors General of India.

As the Additional Solicitor General of India, he is the Litigation Incharge for all cases of the Central Government in the Punjab & Haryana High Court. A Government of India panel of about 130 lawyers, comprising of Asst. SG, Senior Panel Counsels and Central Government Counsels, works under him in the High Court and Mr. Jain is responsible for distribution and allotment of cases amongst all these lawyers. He is also the overall Incharge of litigation of the Government of India in the District & Subordinate Courts in Punjab, Haryana & U.T. Chandigarh.

Sh. Jain has been the All India Incharge of the Legal Cell of the BJP for about 10 years. A noted constitutional lawyer, Mr. Jain has represented the party in various important politico-legal battles like the Liberhan Commission, Karnataka Defection case, HJC Defection case etc.. He was the Election Agent of Sh. P. A. Sangma, Sh. B. S. Sekhawat and Smt. Nezma Heptulla in the Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections. He has represented Sh. M. Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India, Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, Sh. L.K. Advani, Late Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Sh. Shanta Kumar, Sh. Prem Kumar Dhumal, in various courts in India.

Mr. Jain was elected to Lok Sabha from Chandigarh in 1996 and 1998. He also won elections to Panjab University Senate from the Graduates Constituency in 1976, 1980, 1984 and 1988. He was nominated as a member of the PU Senate by the Vice President of India in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016. A noted constitutional lawyer, Mr. Jain has been associated with the RSS & the ABVP right from his college days.
