Chandigarh 14 NOV 2019. On this occasion, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore appreciated Chandigarh Police and wished all employees on 53rd Raising Day of Chandigarh Police. Hon’ble Chief Guest in his address said, “The name of Chandigarh Police is counted among the best known police force in country. Chandigarh Police has been identified as professional, committed, responsible and accountable police force in these 53 years since 1966”. Chandigarh Police faces every challenge with great deal of efforts and endurance. DGP Chandigarh is constantly working with administration to improve the functioning of Chandigarh Police by procuring modern weapons and vehicles, initiating various modernization projects.
Hon’ble Chief Guest highlighted important initiatives started by Chandigarh Police. This year the ERSS project was inaugurated in Chandigarh under this all emergency services such as police, ambulance and firefighters will be available at Single Emergency Number 112, which will greatly facilitate the citizens to get all emergency services. Mobile Based Application E-Beat Book System has been launched under which area of Chandigarh divided into 54 divisions and 113 beats with 4 police personnel present in beat 24 hours.
This will bridge gap between public and police. Chandigarh Police successfully trained around 800 youth under PMKVY with a view to channelize power and mind of youth towards nation building activities and to provide them chance to earn their livelihood which is an appreciable of efforts of Chandigarh Police. Chandigarh Police also taken commendable steps to protect the environment in this way about 1000 plants were planted in police stations, police lines and other units. Chandigarh Police also implemented the CCTNS a system to strengthen and improve the functioning of all the police stations. The performance and efficiency of Chandigarh Police affects the residents of city most, whether it is issue of safety of women or traffic management and safety and security of Senior Citizens.
Hon’ble Chief Guest appreciated community policing and e-governance initiatives undertaken by Chandigarh Police. At last Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore praised and gave compliments to all officers of Chandigarh Police for their best parade.
Chandigarh Police was raised after the declaration of Chandigarh as Union territory on 1st November, 1966. The first Chief of Chandigarh Police was Sh. V.K. Kalia, SSP. The post of IGP was created in the year 1981 and 18 Inspector General’s of Police have been appointed till date. Presently, Sh. Sanjay Baniwal, IPS is the Director General of Police. Today the number of police personnel in Chandigarh police has reached more than 6000 to maintain security, law & orders and traffic arrangements in the city.
This year also, Chandigarh Police is celebrating “Chandigarh Police Week-2019” from 12th November, 2019 to 18th November, 2019, which has become an annual feature. The basic objective of Police Week is to build a close bonding with the members of the public and to form stronger partnerships between Police and the communities they serve. The Police week is being organized to build public interest, support and to reduce the gap between the Police and public. During the Chandigarh Police Week, celebrations will definitely bring community, people, citizen forums, students closer to Police and to build up the desired trust and rapport as required. Various units of Chandigarh Police like District Police, PCR, Operation Cell, Security Wing, Traffic Police keep working round the clock to provide best policing services to the citizens.
To mark this occasion, today, a parade was organized in RTC Ground, Police Lines, Sector 26, Chandigarh. Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, was the chief guest on the occasion. Sh. Sanjay Baniwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Sh. Omvir Singh, IPS, DIG/UT, Sh. Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP/Security & Traffic, Ms. Nilambari Jagadale, IPS, SSP/UT, Sh. Manoj Kumar, IPS, SP/Crime & Headquarter, Sh. Vineet Kumar, IPS, SP/City & Operations, Sh. Roshan Lal SP/Communication along with officers from Chandigarh Administration & Police department, Distinguished invitees their families, Senior Citizens and retired police officers were present at the function.
Sh. Sanjay Baniwal, IPS, Director General of Police delivered welcome address to the Hon’ble guests as well as to audience. DGP/UT in his official address said that Chandigarh Police is always looking for best ways to enhance services for citizens with latest and modern technologies and many new schemes have been started in this order. DGP/UT highlighted the services of Chandigarh Police introduced recently which are also as under:-
